GGSS has initiated a one year project focusing on promoting natural remedies for common illness among the rural villages, titled "Training on herbal medicine making and low cost home based nutritional remedies for touring sisters under Archdiocese of Guwahati" supported by Missio, Munichen, Germany. Goal: The rural tribal villagers will start making and using herbal medicines for common diseases and low cost nutritional home remedies SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES OF THE PROJECT -To impart knowledge on the preparation of herbal medicines and low cost nutritional home recipes among the touring sisters working under the Archdiocese of Guwahati -To capacitate the touring sisters to orient the rural tribal villagers on the preparation of herbal medicines and low cost nutritional home recipes -To set up village level model herbal gardens towards to familiarize the villagers on various commonly used medicinal plants ACTIVITY HIGHLIGHTS + Awareness seminar on use and benefits of herbal medicines and low cost nutritional home remedies for the target groups + Identification of common diseases at village level + Identification of traditional health practitioners at village level + Identification of various herbal plants at village level + Exposure trip to herbal gardens + Demonstrations on developing herbal gardens + Training on herbal medicine preparation and low cost home based nutritional remedies for the identified traditional health practitioners, school drop out youth, village touring sisters, ASHA (Accredited Social and Health Activist)etc + Developing model herbal gardens at village level
