In a remarkable demonstration of compassion and solidarity, the Guwahati Gana Seva Society (GGSS) stepped up to provide critical humanitarian aid to thousands of families affected by the dual crises of the Covid-19 pandemic and devastating floods. As the pandemic tightened its grip on the nation, bringing life to a standstill and creating severe shortages of food and essential commodities, GGSS launched an emergency relief initiative aimed at supporting the most vulnerable. The organization distributed dry ration and hygiene kits to families in distress, ensuring that no one was left behind during the lockdown-induced crisis.

The relief effort extended beyond the pandemic, addressing the plight of flood-affected families across Assam. GGSS reached out to 4417 families with dry ration and hygiene kits and provided unconditional direct cash transfers of Rs. 3800/- each to 300 families, offering much-needed financial relief. In total, the organization supported approximately 19,720 individuals across the districts of Kamrup Metro, Kamrup Rural, Baksa, Goalpara, Hojai, and Morigaon.

In a further gesture of solidarity, GGSS, along with the Archdiocese of Guwahati, contributed Rs. 3,00,000 to the Assam Chief Minister’s Relief Fund, reinforcing their commitment to combating the effects of the pandemic and the subsequent lockdown. Through this timely and compassionate intervention, Guwahati Gana Seva Society has not only alleviated immediate suffering but has also exemplified the power of collective action and humanitarian concern in times of crisis.
