The Guwahati Gana Seva Society (GGSS) played a crucial role in providing humanitarian assistance to flood victims in Morigaon district, Assam, during the 2023 natural disaster. The flood caused extensive damage, affecting the livelihoods of vulnerable families by destroying homes, properties, livestock, crops, agricultural land, and infrastructure. As a result, many families were forced to seek refuge in temporary relief camps, where they faced an urgent need for food and other essential commodities.
In response to this crisis, GGSS, with the support of Manos Unidas, Spain, initiated an emergency relief operation to provide immediate aid to the affected families. The relief efforts significantly alleviated the suffering of 921 families across 10 villages in Morigaon district, offering essential resources to help them cope with the disaster's aftermath. The total expenditure for this humanitarian intervention amounted to Rs. 17,44,962.00, benefiting 4749 individuals. This timely support provided much-needed respite and hope to the flood-affected communities, exemplifying the spirit of compassion and solidarity in times of crisis.
