Guwahati Gana Seva Society (GGSS) demonstrated commendable humanitarian service by supporting displaced populations affected by ethnic violence in Manipur. The sudden outbreak of violence in many districts forced big number of people to abandon their homes and seek refuge in temporary relief camps and migrate to neighbouring states, including Assam. Guwahati city became a significant shelter point for these displaced families.
The emergency relief efforts were carried out in both Manipur and Guwahati, with substantial support from the Archdiocese of Guwahati and contributions from other parts of India. GGSS played a pivotal role in organizing and distributing essential commodities such as food, clothes, utensils, and hygiene kits.
Specifically, emergency relief materials reached 500 displaced families in Churachandpur district and 221 migrated families in Guwahati city. Clothes and utensils were sent to the Archdiocesan Social Service Centre of Imphal and subsequently distributed to families in various relief camps across Manipur.
In total, GGSS spent Rs. 13,38,441/- to provide critical assistance, ensuring that the displaced populations received timely support during their time of crisis. This dedicated and coordinated response highlights the importance of solidarity and humanitarian action in times of communal unrest.
