Enhanced Livelihood through Empowered Civil Society Organisation in Baksa District, Assam (IRDP-Phase II)
The 3 years project focused on the holistic development of the rural communities of 23 rural villages of Baksa District in Assam. They project operated through four centers (Sashipur, Kumarikatta,Tamulpur and Nagrijuli). The aim of the project was to create awareness among the target groups through community mobilization,SHG formation, Income Generation Activities, Youth guidance programme, and Health Education etc. Right based approach was adopted throughout the process in order to bring the Community Based Organizations to the societal mainstream. The project created platform for the women SHG members to achieve stable income through engaging in sales and marketing of various SHG products like, handicrafts, cloths, value added food products, vegetables etc. Highlights of Achievements More than 70 SHGs are trained in various income generation activities such as food processing, herbal medicine preparation, piggery, fishery, goat rearing, mushroom cultivation, Garment making and embroidery works etc. Credit system and market linkages are also initiated. Four SHG Federations are functional and opened small market outlets to market various SHG products under each Project Centre. SHG Federations conjointly opened a common Cooperative shop at Tamulpur Town, Baksa district. The SHG Federations also participate in village level weekly marketing, exhibitions and sales melas during festive seasons. Tailoring units are also set up under each project centre. The SHG Federations started availing various Government Schemes and provisions for Group wise Income Generation Activities. They also support the villagers to apply for various schemes and benefits.
