The micro project on Promotion of Community owned TARA pumps was envisaged with the aim of supporting the selected most neediest five rural tribal villages in Goalpara District, Assam towards having permanent drinking water sources. The villagers get sufficient water during the 1st half of the year where as in the next half and especially during peak summer season, they suffer from scarcity of water due to the non-availability of the surface water. The TARA pumps are constructed in common places in the villages as a permanent water source so that all the targeted families will have equal access to drinking water throughout the year. The project implementation has resulted in reducing the burden of women and children of the villages on fetching water from faraway places. A total number of 200 HHS have directly benefited from the project supported by Caritas India. User committees are formed in every village to ensure the responsible use of the water and proper maintenance of the TARA pumps.
