GGSS with the support of Kindermissionswerk, Germany has initiated a two years Pilot project on Promotion of Food Security and organic farming among hostel children of the selected 12 schools under the Archdiocese of Guwahati. The project has been implemented from August 2016 to July 2018 across 12 hostels under Archdiocese of Guwahati.
Goal of the Project:To ensure food safety and sufficiency of the school children of 12 hostels under the Archdiocese of Guwahati by the end of the project
Objectives:
-To reduce the dependence on external markets for vegetables and fruits needed for daily
consumption of the hostel inmates
-To impart the skills oriented trainings to the targeted school children on various
sustainable agriculture and other allied skills
-To equip the target children with the knowledge and skill in organic farming, and in making
bio-pesticides, inputs etc.
-To enhance knowledge of the target groups on improvement of soil fertility and land
productivity
-To reduce the dependence for most of the inputs like seeds, manures and plant protection
material by sourcing local resources there by reducing the cost of cultivation
-To Improve income through production of quality produce and by reducing the purchase cost
of vegetables and fruits from external markets

+ Distribution of IEC materials (Posters, Farm calendar & Farm dairy)
+ Distribution of prizes for best 3 farms every year
+ Interface meeting with local organic farmers for experience sharing
+ Exposure trip to local organic farms in 1st year
+ Developing organic farms of 2 acres in 12 target hostels
+ Distribution of seeds and seedlings of vegetables and fruits to every target hostel
