Project Overview:
The Revival and Strengthening of Traditional Socio-Economic, Governance, and Health Systems through People-Led Development (PLD): FARM Northeast Phase-IV is a three-year sustainable development initiative (November 2022 – October 2025) implemented in 12 villages across Nagaon, Morigaon, and Kamrup Metro districts of Assam. Funded by Misereor and facilitated by Caritas India, the project aims to empower 892 smallholder farming families (totalling a population of 3,632) through organic and eco-friendly farming practices, climate resilience, and socio-economic strengthening.
Project Goals and Objectives:
The project seeks to enhance self-sufficiency, food security, and economic stability while promoting sustainable natural resource management. Using the People-Led Development Approach (PLDA), the initiative actively involves local communities in planning and decision-making to ensure long-term sustainability.
Key Expected Outcomes:
1. Food Security & Self-Sufficiency:
o 60% of targeted families utilize 80% of cultivable land for diverse food production.
o Improved post-harvest management and integration of diverse farm components (crops, livestock, fisheries, etc.).
2. Climate Resilience & Sustainable Farming:
o Implementation of climate-adaptive farming techniques and soil health management.
o Documentation of preparedness strategies in the target villages.
o Promotion of agroecological practices such as farm waste recycling and afforestation.
3. Market Linkages & Livelihood Diversification:
o 48% of selected farmers engage in local markets, increasing economic independence.
o Strengthened value addition, non-timber forest products (NTFPs), and traditional crafts for multiple income sources.
By integrating traditional knowledge with modern sustainable practices, FARM Northeast Phase-IV fosters self-reliant, climate-resilient, and economically empowered rural communities.
