The project “Improving Access to Comprehensive Maternal and Child Health Services; and for Disease and Condition of Districts Level Importance in North East India (Phase – V)” is a healthcare initiative aimed at enhancing access to essential maternal and child health services in marginalized rural communities across North East India. Implemented by GGSS, the project benefits pregnant women, lactating mothers, and children under five years, ensuring they receive antenatal care (ANC), institutional delivery support, growth monitoring, nutrition, immunization, and treatment for common ailments. Through interventions in 46 villages, covering 7,190 households and a population of 35,607, the project has significantly raised awareness about health and hygiene, particularly regarding safe childbirth, child nutrition, and disease prevention among the rural inhabitants of Goalpara, Tamulpur and Kamrup Rural district of Assam. Additionally, it extends comprehensive healthcare services to individuals suffering from skin diseases and other ailments.


Project Goal:
To ensure that marginalized communities have access to comprehensive maternal and child health services and receive medical attention for district-level diseases such as ringworm, cancer, eye care, TB, and HIV/AIDS across 16 districts in five northeastern states of India.

Project Objectives:
1. Provide a complete cascade of maternal and child health services to pregnant women, lactating mothers, and children under the age of five, including:
o Antenatal care (ANC)
o Institutional delivery
o Appropriate feeding practices
o Growth monitoring
o Nutrition support
o Immunization
o Treatment of common ailments
2. Ensure access to comprehensive (primary to tertiary) medical services for people suffering from skin diseases and other ailments etc.

Key Interventions:
• Community Awareness & Health Education: Conduct awareness programs in rural communities on maternal and child health, hygiene, and nutrition.
• Healthcare Services: Facilitate ANC check-ups, institutional deliveries, immunization drives, and child growth monitoring in rural villages.
• Nutritional Support: Promote breastfeeding, complementary feeding, and nutritional supplementation for lactating mothers and children.
• Disease Prevention & Treatment: Provide screening and treatment services for diseases such as TB, HIV/AIDS, cancer, and eye care.
• Referral Services: Establish a network for referrals from primary to tertiary care for severe cases.

• Increased awareness and utilization of maternal and child healthcare services.
• Higher institutional delivery rates, ensuring safer childbirth experiences.
• Improved immunization coverage for children under five.
• Early detection and treatment of diseases prevalent in the rural areas.
• Strengthened healthcare support systems in marginalized communities.

This project has significantly contributed to improving healthcare access in rural villages of Assam, empowering communities with essential knowledge and services for better health outcomes
