The Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR) Project, supported by Caritas Germany, was implemented in 20 revenue villages of Mayong and Laharighat blocks in Morigaon district, Assam. This initiative targeted 5,517 households (30,920 individuals) residing in highly flood-prone areas, aiming to reduce poverty, enhance food security, and promote social inclusion while strengthening community resilience against recurring natural disasters. The project has been implemented from 1st April 2021 to 31st March 2024.

Key Interventions
• Community Empowerment: Strengthening vulnerable communities with knowledge and skills to assess risks, manage disasters, and sustain livelihoods.
• Livelihood Promotion: Implementing sustainable livelihood strategies to mitigate the economic impact of unpredictable natural calamities.
• Disaster Risk Reduction (DRR): Establishing disaster response teams, risk management committees to implement risk management plans.
• Social Inclusion & Governance: Enhancing access to government social benefits, increasing community engagement in civil society initiatives, and improving collaboration with government agencies to implement disaster management plans effectively.
The intervention project empowered vulnerable communities by equipping them with knowledge and skills to identify vulnerabilities, strengthen sustainable livelihoods, and effectively respond to disasters. Through capacity-building efforts, the intervention motivated communities to recognize their potential and build resilience to mitigate the adverse impacts of floods on their livelihoods.
