The Guwahati Gana Seva Society (GGSS), with support from Misereor & Caritas India, implemented the FARM North East – III project from November 2019 to October 2022 in 13 villages of Mayong Block, Morigaon District, Northeast India. This initiative aimed to strengthen food sovereignty by enhancing food production, promoting indigenous seed cultivation, and enabling farmers to control local markets for surplus organic products.
Following the success of Phase II, the third phase focused on a People Led Development Approach (PLDA), empowering 936 farming families (5,119 individuals) to take charge of their own development. The project is determined to improve nutritional intake, sustainable farming practices, and economic self-reliance within the community.
Expected Impact & Key Outcomes:
• Improved Food Security: 936 farming families will achieve sufficient food production and better nutritional intake based on their cultural dietary practices.
• Promotion of Indigenous Seeds: Farmers will actively adopt and preserved traditional seeds for cultivation and consumption.
• Market Empowerment: Marginalized farmers will gain greater control over local markets, ensuring fair trade for their surplus organic produce.
Through this intervention, the project intervention aimed to strengthen community resilience, food sustainability, and economic empowerment in the region.
